Program Overview
Youth Baseball is offered in the spring for ages 9-16.   Practices are held on local ballfields on weekday evenings and some weekends.  Approximately 3 practices are held each week.  Games are held at Hargett Park on weekday evenings with two games scheduled each week.  Uniforms are included with the program fee.  Participants are responsible for their own equipment.   The program fee also includes mandatory accident insurance, which remains in effect for all city-sponsored athletic activities within that calendar year.

Age Group Divisions

Dixie Youth Minors:  Ages 9 - 10
Dixie Youth Majors:  Ages 11 - 12
Dixie Boys:   Ages 13 – 14
Dixie Pre Majors/ Majors: Ages 15 – 18 (try-outs may be required)
The registration brochure will specify the age cut off date.

Registration

Registration typically begins at the end of January and runs for 3 or 4 weeks.  Registration for those age groups that play later in the season may be taken for a longer period of time.  A Registration Brochure with program details and registration form will be posted to this website when it becomes available mid-January.  To register, you may complete the form for each child and mail with a check, or you can come to one of several PRT locations to sign up.  First time participants will need to present a copy of a birth certificate to register.     Registration Details

Skills Evaluation
A Skills Evaluation will be held for all players.  This process assists staff in creating balanced teams within each age division.   During Skills Evaluation, players will run through a series of basic drills to allow staff to access their experience level.  The date and time of the Skills Evaluation will be specified in the Registration Brochure.

Team Notification & First Practice
After teams are assigned, you will be notified by your coach as to your team’s practice schedule and practice location.

Jamboree & Team Photos
At the beginning of the season, a Jamboree is held where all teams will gather and play another team in a shortened version of a game.  Team and individual photos may be taken during the Jamboree.  Uniforms will be given out at Jamboree, if not already given out at a practice.  The Jamboree date will be listed in the Registration Brochure.  Your coach will let you know what time your team will participate in the Jamboree.

Season & Game Schedules
Your coach will provide you with a game schedule.  Season and game schedules are also posted to the PRT Sports League Schedule webpage.  Game schedules for the current day are available by phone on The Herald’s Buzzline.

Weather Policy
Decisions to cancel games will be based on current weather conditions and/or field conditions.  Normally, games will not be cancelled until near the scheduled starting time. As soon as games are canceled, the decision will be posted on The Herald’s Buzzline.

If PRT determines that weather and/or field conditions necessitate the cancellation of practices, the decision will be posted on The Herald’s Buzzline.  However, a coach may decide to cancel a practice due to weather independently of PRT.  If this is the case, the coach will contact players to let them know.
