Outdoor Recreation Programmer: Tom Bell, 803/329-5632, tbell@cityofrockhill.com
PRT offers a popular year-round paddling program with day trips, weekend trips, evening paddles and instructional sessions. An experience can even be tailored for your group’s unique needs! PRT provides the kayaks, transportation, and instruction, or you can bring your own kayak and join the group. PRT’s tandem kayaks are a great way to introduce newcomers and young kayakers to this exciting sport!
A current schedule of paddling trips and events is available on the Outdoor Recreation Schedule.
“Feature of the Month” Paddles
Several day and weekend trips are planned to regional lakes and rivers each year. Locations include destinations such as Lake Jocassee, the New River, Stumpy Pond and Hilton Head Island.
Afterwork Paddles
Unwind on the water as you paddle the Catawba River. After a hectic day, come relieve your stress as you view wildlife and learn new skills in one of our “user friendly” kayaks. You will see life from a different perspective and feel great at the same time! Most paddles are held on the Catawba River or Lake Wylie during the evening hours. Departure times and locations may vary.
Moonlight Paddles
Looking for a unique leisure experience? Want to enjoy the beauty of nature? Then you should try one of our Moonlight Paddles! There is something mystical about navigating the quiet coves of Lake Wylie by the light of the silvery moon. And this excursion is a great way to start for beginners, too. These paddles are held during the evening hours and typically leave from Allison Creek.
Registration
Pre-registration and payment is required for all paddle activities. Cancellation guidelines are available for those who have a change of plans after registration. Registration/Cancellation
Group Experiences
PRT is available to create paddling adventures for your group or organization. Whether day trips or overnight paddle & camping excursions, we can suggest options to meet your needs. Such adventures can be a great team-building exercise for small groups.
Paddling Program Goals
One of our goals is to help grow the paddling community in Rock Hill by providing participants with a comfortable introduction to paddle sports. So whether you are a first time paddler or a river rat with skills to share, we invite you to get involved with PRT paddling!
Checklist for Paddlers
These are some helpful items that we suggest you bring for your paddle experience. Other items may be also needed for your particular trip. Sunscreen, bug spray, drinking water, sunglasses, a hat and water shoes or sandals that attach securely to your feet.
