The Rock Hill Board of Historic Review and Historic Rock Hill Announce New Historic Preservation Award

2/2/2010

ROCK HILL, SC – The Rock Hill Board of Historic Review and Historic Rock Hill have partnered to present the first annual Rock Hill’s Excellence in Historic Preservation award.  The award will recognize significant achievements in historic preservation or restoration within the City's locally designated historic districts and locally designated individual properties.

Judging criteria will focus on the impact of the project on the surrounding historic district; the quality and difficulty of the project; and the degree to which the project serves as an example of best practices in historic preservation.

Eligible projects include the following types of work done in the past three years:

  • Extensive restoration of an existing structure
  • Extensive architectural work to a non-historic building making it more architecturally compatible to the surrounding historic district
  • New or compatible reuse that maintains the architectural integrity of the structure
  • New construction built within and compatible with the surrounding historic district
  • Exemplary maintenance or impeccable workmanship of an existing historic structure
  • Extensive use of “green” building technologies in preservation work or new construction

Applications are available on the City of Rock Hill website, www.cityofrockhill.com, under “Featured Pages” on the home page [Download Here], or by contacting Janice Miller, the City of Rock Hill Historic Preservation Specialist, at 803/817-5129 or by email at jemiller@cityofrockhill.com.  Applications for this inaugural award must be received by April 1, 2010.  The award will be presented to the winner at Historic Rock Hill’s annual membership meeting in May.
